The Aquarium earns its name with dense schools of snapper, batfish and angelfish over hard coral, plus turtles and the chance of leopard sharks. It lies just outside the boundary of the Daymaniyat Islands Nature Reserve, about 1–1.5 hours by boat from Muscat. Reserve entry and diving permits come from Oman's Environment Authority, and landing on the islands is banned from 1 May to the end of October.
