Beginner scuba diving in Havelock

Most Havelock first dives happen at Nemo Reef because you walk in from Beach No. 2. After that, shops move people onto Lighthouse, Turtle Beach, Aquarium, and Tribe Gate — shallow enough for Discover Scuba, interesting enough that certified Open Water divers still log them.
Try Scuba / Discover Scuba is supervised and is not a rank. If you want to dive the wall or the pinnacles later, that is a certification path plus a centre briefing — not a blog list.

Beach No. 2's fringing reef — where almost every Havelock diver starts. Dual reef, clownfish, and the Ghost Jeep. A common checkout and try-dive house reef.

Lighthouse
North-west point, Swaraj Dweep
The workhorse slope under Havelock's lighthouse: 3–23 m, coral gardens, and enough topography for skills and a proper fun dive. This is where many Havelock guests actually get certified.

Turtle Beach
Eastern fringing reef, Swaraj Dweep
Shallow staghorn gardens (often cited around 80% live cover) with regular green and hawksbill turtles. A gentle, complete site — density over drama — and a priority site for reef-health monitoring.

Aquarium
Southeast reef, Swaraj Dweep
A sheltered circular reef that really does look like an aquarium: dense fish, multiple clownfish colonies and barrel sponges in 5–16 m. A staple for first fun dives after Nemo Reef.

Tribe Gate (Oval Reef)
Submerged seamount off Swaraj Dweep
A pocket seamount of giant clams and clownfish a few minutes off the beach. Useful for courses and for a short second dive.

Purple Haze
Shallow soft-coral garden, Swaraj Dweep
Named for the purple soft-coral carpet. Mantis shrimp, nudibranchs and pipefish in 8–12 m. Completes the inshore encyclopedia so the atlas is not only walls and pinnacles.
What 'beginner' actually means here
Beginner on Diver Atlas means the plate's difficulty field, typical max depth, and cert level — not 'anyone can go.' Current, vis, and the day's boat plan still belong to the instructor.
Dixon's Pinnacle and Johnny's Gorge will appear in the same Google results. They are the wrong first drop. Use this guide for the shallow set; use the advanced plates when the card in your passport matches the briefing.

A broad, photogenic reef just off the channel, known for a resident leopard-shark family, marble rays and a wall of phantom bannerfish. High vis in season. A favourite between training sites and the offshore trinity.

Seagrass and reef edge, Swaraj Dweep
Seagrass meadows and a quiet coral edge. Turtles are regular; dugong are reported here more than anywhere else in the Havelock set. Sensitive-species locations are coarsened on purpose.

Quiet staghorn terrace, Swaraj Dweep
A quieter staghorn forest that still feels like a secret. Napoleon wrasse sometimes shadow the group. Keeps the atlas dense on the west side of Havelock, not only the famous offshore trio.

- Can a non-swimmer scuba dive in Havelock?
- Some centres run a tightly supervised try-dive. That is a shop decision and a medical screen, not something Diver Atlas books or promises.
- What is the easiest dive site in Havelock?
- Nemo Reef is the usual shore start. Lighthouse is the usual first boat site. Read each plate for depth and current before you treat a blog ranking as a briefing.
